GovBlocks is a fully decentralized DAO and online community management platform with modularized governance functionality. We’ve leveraged Diamond smart-contracts to provide an infinitely scalable infrastructure so that community governance can improve over time, while simultaneously reducing gas and deployment costs. Anyone can access all features of GovBlocks anytime with zero upfront costs. Govblocks integrates seamlessly with a communities domain, meaning members never have to leave their native website, all within an easy to use user interface to reduce confusions and scams. Additionally, we’ve deployed 3 out-of-the-box modules for Day1 use including; a weighted voting participation module to incentivize and reward good community behavior, decentralized role permissions and controls, and an automated proposal and voting process to manage changes to governance settings. The quantity of new modules which can be developed are as expansive as the human mind, and we believe this marks a new era for DAOs and online community governance. Project details
Use of diamond contracts offers many benefits to DAOs including the ability to deploy trustless contracts which are upgradable through DAO governance. In addition to reducing gas and deployment costs, diamond contracts allow a DAO the ability to develop and improve an application over time with an upgradeable diamond and then make it immutable and trustless if desired. This gives DAOs the ability to have contracts which evolve with the needs of their communities without sacrificing decentralization. By utilizing diamonds, DAOs can “eat their own dogfood” which is a benefit to the blockchain community as a whole.
To date there are relatively few projects leveraging diamonds because of the newness of the standard in conjunction with the complexity of implementation. Despite this, the benefits of using diamonds far outweigh the costs for those willing to overcome the barriers in order to drive innovation while maintaining the ideals that make the blockchain space so revolutionary.
After spending considerable time doing user interviews with DAO subject matter experts to identify pain points, we identified a common theme in the difficulty of making a DAO governance architecture that could evolve with a DAO as it matures. Many DAOs mitigate this problem by using a centralized system(E.G. Discord) to manage governance functions. Burdened with our unwillingness to compromise our ideals, we have built an application that leverages the nascent technology of diamond to solve this problem while maintaining decentralization.
